Researchers have discovered a new type of neurons that are involved in cognitive flexibility, the ability to switch between different tasks and strategies. These neurons, called VIP interneurons, are located in the prefrontal cortex and can inhibit or activate other neurons depending on the situation. The findings could help understand how the brain learns and adapts to new challenges.
