Today I learned a new word: "nowtopia", a social construct that really exist in the present, while embedding some of the characteristics of a radically different, better society.

I find it a powerful concept. I know personally several nowtopias, and am even working on building a (very small, very partial) one myself: a #cohousing. I learned the concept from the mighty @g_kallis in this paper: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00045608.2014.973803

Have you considered using the property to explore living condition scenarios from "Decent living with minimum energy"? That's something I've frequently thought about since reading that paper (I just did a measurement now, to compare a 15 m² per capita benchmark.)

It could go hand-in-hand with a transfer to cooperative ownership, for people who could be interested in trying this.

- Cooperative allotments for fruit/veg production?
- What else?

I guess its a bit like the co-housing/community idea of housing. Support and company and maybe communal tasks which give meaningfulness and value to individuals and what they contribute to the community. Scope to expand on this idea. As long as you like & accept your neighbours!! 😜

There are various modern successors to almshouses. One is cohousing, either for older people or mixed age communities. It's perhaps closer to the Flemish begijnhof in concept, more collaborative and less paternalistic than an almshouse.

Mobile home park residents form co-ops to save their homes

When residents learned the park’s owner was looking to sell, they formed a cooperative and bought it themselves amid worries it would be redeveloped. Since becoming owners in September 2022, residents have worked together to manage and maintain the park.
