I've also been using the #Colab #AI code completion tool some more.

I've found it more useful for today's work. I think this is because I've written this kind of code at least 3 or 4 different times before, so I know what needs to be done; I just don't want to have to type it all. There's a lot of boilerplate kind of code you have to do for the data preprocessing.

Today, I am going to try to train my own #TinyStories #LLM from scratch.

This is part of my ongoing attempt to apply non-negative matrix factorization to the weights of dense linear layers within the model.

I'm hoping to pretty closely reproduce the training of the original TinyStories model, but using my own training code. Then, once I can reproduce it normally, I'll try out the factorization approach and compare them.

I have checked the 0$ option but want to indicate that I do indeed use some of the tools/platforms (rather experimenting and no production use yet), only I (a) keep within the free tier (e.g. #Colab, #HuggingFace or #OpenAI's initial "free credit"), or (b) am lucky to have institutional access to an alternative platform (e.g. #JupyterNotebooks on HPC cluster with @gwdg or #mpdcf ).
