#ClimateChange: 2022 was #Scotland's hottest year

"Scotland saw #WeatherExtremes in 2022.

"A series of water scarcity warnings were issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) during the summer months.

"The situation in the east of the country gave concern, with water abstraction suspended on the River Tyne in East Lothian, River Ythan in Aberdeenshire and the Lower Tweed in the Borders.

"Scotland was also on course for its #coldest December in over a decade after the UK's lowest maximum temperature for 12 years was recorded in Aberdeenshire on the 12th.

"The Met Office confirmed the highest temperature recorded in Braemar was -9.3C after overnight temperatures plummeted to -15.7C.

"And at the end of the year, the south of Scotland fell under an amber warning for #HeavyRainfall which saw severe #flooding in Dumfries and Galloway and major travel disruption."

#Coldest night of the #winter here at my east #Dorset station with -5.9°C, whilst #Bournemouth Airport fell to -7.7°C.

With this cold spell drawing to a close, last night was the joint #coldest night of the winter at my east #Dorset station, with a minimum of -5.8°C.
Meanwhile #Bournemouth Airport fell to -7.2°C, one of the coldest stations in the country.

• Record wind gust of 60mph recorded on 18th February
• #Driest summer by some margin with just 16.4% local rainfall
• Station record high temperature of 35.6°C recorded on 18th July
• A record run of 7 days exceeding 30°C in July
• November was the station’s wettest month on record (242mm, 240.8%)
• Not a single air frost in November
• #Warmest autumn on record
• #Wettest autumn on record
• #Coldest start to December since 2010

Today marks the end of one of the most significant #Dorset #cold spells for years. The mean #temperature is currently just 0.9°C, 4.3°C below the local 1981-2010 #December average. It will undoubtedly change given a warmer second half of the month but this is currently the second #coldest month since I began recording in 2009, just 0.6°C warmer than December 2010.

#fortherecord. so. suddenly. today's the #coldest day since we've entered this #wintry #season here in #hkg #hongkong #香港. also uncharacteristically #dry, a sharp turn right after having days of #rain; so dry now it's hurting my lips! at least the #sun was out to cheer us up, and the #wind has been kind to us. perhaps we should enjoy this kind of #weather while it lasts/still exists… #winter #cold #climate
