After a very long night I got the ending for the secret Gnat character coded in SSA. I spent about half the night just trying to get 50k compressed to under 32k so I could justify all the screens... finally cut them down a bit and got to 22k, which was fine. Just two endings left to code.. unfortunately they are the two ships I don't have any ideas for yet. ;)

Then I need to decide if I'm going to try for F18A enhanced graphics... although to be honest... I am not sure they'll fit without doubling the ROM again. I might just have to be satisfied after 34 years. (Besides, the graphics can be used for the other ports ;) ).

Finally got SSA back to parity with where it was, plus a few extra features to get it rolling again. It's pretty close, and I think it shouldn't take too long to get there...

SSA is progressing slowly. I keep running into code bits that surprise me until I remember this is an upgrade of some of the very first C code I ever wrote. But just two more pieces to redo and I can push out a release.

One is the enemy generator, which I've been putting off cause it's going to take a while to rewrite. The other is to redo all the bosses. In the original game 30+ years ago, my brother drew sketches for the bosses. I turned those into single-color flat block enemies. 10 years ago, I used assets from Tyrian (which became PD). But my brother didn't like them... so I have updated versions of his sketches ready to go in.

Also got homing shots for the Princess secret character which changed her game a lot, re-dithered her ending picture since that has improved a lot, and upgraded the music player. (Please to see the new music player saved 5k of data and plays almost entirely in vblank now). Oh, and animated title page and attract mode. ;) #retrodev #colecovision

I've always felt ColecoVision is unfairly lumped in with the likes of Intellivision and 2600, when really it's much more powerful. I hope these gifs of B.C.'s Quest For Tires and Smurfs illustrates that it has more in common with early Famicom than Atari 2600!

You could press 5 to Tarzan yell. Swinging on vines to save monkeys hanging in cages was fun.
