another nice point about veilid is that it supports UDP unlike tor. the fastest and meanest and leanest thing that's been around forever and is supported by everything. When I started working on atacama 3 years ago the target platform was #collapseOS , stuff that runs 16-bit processor and I've kept that constraint on protocol level. that's why it's so small and FAST. perfect match for veilid, cannot wait to get this working. hack, hack.
Thinking about #CollapseOS again, and the rationale for its existence. Depressing. Pondering how we might re-establish (slow) communication networks based on #HamRadio post-collapse.
@nixCraft If AI will come to Linux without being able to remove it (completely), I will switch to an os, which will not have this crap at all. Something like an old #Commodore64 or #uxn or #collapseos
Ready for Doomsday? Added #CollapseOS http://collapseos.org/ #FORTH to #FPGA based #Z80 system #f80 https://github.com/rprinz08/f80/blob/main/src/collapse-os/readme.md
#collapseos #forth #fpga #z80 #f80
Even the #collapseos mailing list has become infected with this pseudo-AI garbage.
It’s becoming inescapable.
@mos_8502 nostalgia and escapism, got it! Which has a future. Alright. No, that i don't think is true. Stuff made out of escapism by construction folds when it meets with the reality. Same thing holds true for #collapseos people. Prove that zx spectrum can be scalably salvaged before making an OS or admit that the premise is fantastic.
The real reason we need #CollapseOS isn't because civilization is going to collapse but because all modern hardware is so full of backdoors, DRM, and surveillance. It's really computing that has collapsed.
Buscando sobre hacking en dispositivos Zilog80 como dev platforms, encontré esto, tremendo, el primer párrafo dice, abro comillas... "Winter is coming and Collapse OS aims to soften the blow. It is a Forth operating system and a collection of tools and documentation with a single purpose: preserve the ability to program microcontrollers through civilizational collapse " --> http://collapseos.org/ #collapseos #z80 #zilog80 #apocalipsiszombie #civilization #programming #hacking

Trying to figure out the architecture for a somewhat self-hosting OS for the #PocketViewer. Instead of sleeping.
#CollapseOS would only give me access to about 28K of near addressable RAM, but maybe that would be enough?
I don't see much point in scrapping the existing OS though and its standard library would be nice to have access to. Well... I guess I could start by shipping cOS as a C application and providing a C call primitive...?
Sice I like #Forth, I started toying around with #CollapseOS. It looks nice, bute it has it's limitations. https://blog.ynfonatic.de/2023/01/28/adventures-in-collapseos.html
@dan0h that’s awesome. I definitely recommend making it portable because mine spends most of its time in the lab and I don’t get to work on it nearly as much as I would like to.
I also need to take a day to finish the packaging and get #collapseos loaded on an EEPROM so I can start programming it in #forth
hmm... do I make some espresso and try to build an EEPROM programmer with an Arduino and try to build #collapseos and cram it onto one of these chips... and then solder-up the ROM board... and...
Did anybody ever get #CollapseOS to run with blocks on #rc2014, and if yes which microSD module did you use?
@trashrobot 100%
If you haven’t already, check-out #collapseos , it is certainly in the same spirit and all of this is the focus of some of my own work as well.
Maybe I could get my #rc2014 hooked back up so I can connect to it over the network and do some #collapseos hacking 🤔🤔🤔

@socketwench I picked up an rc2014 a year or so ago as they were closing-out the classic/original kits. It's very satisfying to build and work with.
I wish I had time to get #collapseos running on it, I picked-up some eeeproms but there's a whole process of burning them with an arduino/atmega that I'm planning to do (vs. buying a programmer) and every time I start working on it something else comes-up.
@eldritch48 Hopefully there will be someone who is able to install #collapseos
hacking on #osmocombb again, thought about porting #collapseos :p but that'll be a future project most likely, thanks for IRC help (-c chainloader option I forgot) I got my little t9 toy on a phone again :) http://unreasonablefarm.org/videos/IMG_1950.MOV
