Significance is an important aspect to prioritising our work.
The Museum Association (UK) launched a Collections Significance Assessment Toolkit for Welsh museums including recommendations to invite communities into significance discussions.
What is useful for Wales is probably pretty useful for the rest of us, with some tweaking.

New acquisition quarantine process is necessary for reducing the introduction of mould and pests into library and archive collections.
It also means I get to spot great retro stationery like this beast of a folder.

Even though I'm a book and paper conservator, preparing exhibitions means being flexible about condition reporting. In this case, a 17th century feather and door hinges.

We discovered this morning the valiant effort at life this flower is making towards joining our conservation studio.
Horrified about the door seal. Astounded at nature.

A reminder of our upcoming #CollectionCare conference about mould.
We have a fab schedule of speakers.
Tickets still available.
Start time is 13.00 BST (not 10.00 as on website).

I am searching for people who have read "Managing Previously Unmanaged Collections" and have ideas what is missing or what should be improved.
Also looking for additional real world examples.
Boosts are appreciated!

Condition checking before sending out on loan:
- parchment undulations
- engrained dirt
- creased
- accretions, etc.
Having listed the above, this 12th century bible is doing ok.

Colour photo from yesterday vs archival black & white image from 1970 - same ancient Roman glass flask, dated to about 275-325 CE. Both pics are important to keep as objects can change, even deteriorate, over the years.

Completing a condition report for this sweet book for an upcoming display.
Unfortunately, the binding won't be fully visible, mostly the opening.

Getting to yes.
Set up a series of large, heavy volumes with serious red rot.
How:
- sound textblocks
- archival wrappers to contain the leather detritus
- Reader didn't move volume other than turning pages
- surface protection
- distanced from other Readers
