It is not the individual vs the collective, it is the individual AND the collective. We all have our intricacies, our forces and our flaws, and throughb the collectivity we aided with our flaws through the forces of others, and we aid others with their flaws through our forces. Every one complement each others.

@andreaslindholm Your notional is a straw man fallacy. Those that actually exist know they can't do everything themselves and welcome working voluntarily with others, whether they’re fixing a streetlight or building an electrical supply grid.

seizing the means of production :anarchistflag:
Listening to the Working Class History podcast about the Portuguese revolution of 1974 where workers took over factories and managed them collectively, I wondered to myself if this could ever happen today? Well it can, and did at an automotive factory in Florence, Italy, this year. When the bosses made the workers redundant the workers occupied the factory, and have raised money to buy back the factory with the plan to form a workers’ cooperative building cargo bikes.

In case anyone missed it over the weekend, I posted my "Who Really Has An 'Enjoyable Life'?" under toot thread, with some extra stuff on to the blog.

I will try to remember to do the same with others that I make off-the-cuff, in case anyone is ever interested in the shit I have to say.

(I've also just boosted my thread here too).

Yet I am being told it's stupid to dream a different, better world. That trying to end these systems and status quo is foolish - that no-one will ever go with, or even must not be done as this is the most perfect model for humans possible.

If the future is a few 'good' years of 'acceptance' followed by mass oppression and demonisation, what's the point going on?

But hey, this is , right?

the always watching eye,
I didn’t want to live in this world,
I felt so alone,
nothing was mine,
a wall between me and God,
my soul ensconced in a shell within a shell,
not to worry said the surgeons.
they made promises.
I would reach heights beyond human imagination.

desperate, I bargained.
if I accept the implant, they will allow me over the exclusion
zone to see my family.

Agree that human nature, common sense, and popular culture tend to perpetuate lack of interest in seeing the bigger picture — or even recognizing that there might be one.

We fail to see that "more is different", and that what worked for our ancestors in small tribes no longer works at the scale of our global community. And especially in the US perhaps, individualism as identity leads to blind denial of collective approaches to problems/opportunities that exceed the grasp of individuals or small groups.

Issues that cross geopolitical borders, or involve multiple domains of knowledge—exceeding the context of meaning-making or scope of application of present-day agents—are opportunities for bigger-picture cognition augmented by machine intelligence.

Examples include creating and maintaining our evolving models of values—multi-layered, complex, and fine-grained—and our models of instrumental methods (science & technologies) for the promotion of those values into the future we discover by creating it.

But before we let ourselves depend too much on tools for thought that we don't adequately understand, we need to improve our philosophies of trust, reputation, values/preferences, decision-making, … ah, never mind. I got carried away considering the possibilities.

I suppose humans don't really care about bigger-picture thinking when there are more tangible opportunities right in front of us: using machine intelligence to more easily compete against our neighbors in business, defeat our enemies in war, and to increasingly amuse ourselves with decreasing effort…

Reading all the anti-LGBTQ+ laws, makes this all the more obvious.

There is no chance this stuff ever ends if you're in a minority community, by allowing 'politics' and our hierarchical systems and structures to go on.

There will always be someone who wants this power, and will use your existence for their enemy. You will always be playing defence at best, and just trying to survive at worst.

Only a collectivist future of all under shared common humanity will end it.

I recently took a series of political quizzes which opened me up to reflection on my political opinions. I always like to challenge myself to think differently and wonder if my representation of political action really aligns with the motivations I have for , i.e. to make it more fair and ensure a broader , setting in motion change now that will better meet the needs of the future, including tackling the and other such vital changes.

When one of the descriptions of my inclinations was described as by a political quiz, I wondered what that even was. I began reading about it, and found that it was a type of reform, the strongest case of which was done by after World War II, in which the government imposes stricter market control in order to have work towards its theoretical potential. This is done by ensuring competition is happening from the bottom-up, with taxation and higher expectations out of people at the top.

One of the core tenets is that strong economic power can easily become political power, and hence one of the objectives is also to avoid that. I would say there is strong evidence of that theory in the United States. I find this way, the balance between and , strikes a balance that benefits society more holistically, enabling better products and services. I also think that this will allow societies to be working and thriving at a much higher level than they are now.

Ordoliberalism gets results, as well. It was considered to have enabled the German "economic miracle" after the War. To me, in the US, it doesn't seem that we hate the totality of capitalism, but instead, the unnecessary evils of its negative aspects. This is what I think economic policy and legislature is meant to curb, and I think it can continue to do so with policy.
