The Replacements released their first LP, “Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash”
This is way more aggressive sounding than their follow on records. Tommy Stinson was 14 years old when they made this record! 🤯
The first couple of songs I can recall hearing from The Replacements are from this album. “Customer” and “I Hate Music”. The latter was used as the theme song for an underground radio show of the same name.
I think the first Replacements album I bought was actually Hootenanny. IIRC, “Sorry Ma…” was kinda hard to find back in the day, but I got it around the same time. Along with “Stink”, these are my favorite Replacement albums.

R.E.M. release their third LP, “Fables of the Reconstruction”
Up to this point, I’d only listen to R.E.M. if they were on the radio. I liked Radio Free Europe, but couldn’t tell you much more about the band.
But this album includes my favorite R.E.M. song, “Cant Get There From Here”. I think it’s the bassline and jangly, staccato guitar work.
