For some of the way, the works for #HS2 were visible- seeing it from the air gave a good sense of the scale of the project. Nestled at the top of the Colne Valley, West Yorkshire. It's an ideal walking location, located midway between the conurbations of Manchester and Leeds and situated close to the northern edge of the Peak District, near to the Pennine Way. It is surrounded by open moorland and offers river, canal and woodland walks; with over 60 miles of public footpaths available to walk.

Walked the #ColneValley Circular route - on the hills around #Golcar #Marsden #Slaithwaite & #Linthwaite to the west of #Huddersfield.

I walked it clockwise last summer (and most of the partial walks we do on it are that way for some reason) so we went anticlockwise today. 22.5km/14miles. The views are maybe better clockwise but the hills felt a bit easier.

We stopped in for a drink at the pub towards the last stretch and were rewarded for our behaviour by a fantastic sunset to take us home 😍

Went on a lovely walk with our neighbour today - over #Slaithwaite and #PoleMoor to Cupwith Reservoir and back via Cop Hill. It was all so beautiful draped in white, and the sunset was amazing. Lots of bird spotting and chatting to random sheep, dogs and horses.

We even saw an elephant! (In the clouds.) (Last pic. I'm not the only one who can see it, right?)

New Walk created by Marsden Walkers are Welcome - The Mesolithic March Hill. The 6.5 mile walk crosses outlying hamlets in the Colne Valley, to reach March hIll.

The hill was used by our Mesolithic hunter-gatherer forebears as a flint-knapping spot and hunting camp. Walk in the footsteps of the pack horses as you descend the pack horse road on your return to Marsden.

Historically, my #SAD has always been worse leading up to the #solstice than afterwards, so this day always feels like a milestone for me. Circumstance typically trumps precedent for #MentalHealth so I'm not banking on anything - who knows how the next months will go - but it always makes me happy to know we're crossing this threshold. The light is coming back again.

Our first point of interest: Pole Moor.

I'm specifically where the Kirklees Way turns onto Crimea Lane, a farm track. The track runs past the biggest landmarks on this side of the #ColneValley - the Moorside Edge antennae. They're MW radio transmitters, dating from 1931, and they're 158m tall. (Ground= 340m above sea level.) You can hear their signal across much of the UK.

The Kirklees Way is a 60mile loop around the whole district. I plan to walk it over 4 days next spring. Watch this space!
