Interesting Article how #Ghandi.s strategy of passive resistance (pacifism) didn't entirely work out and how he diminished #grassroots #resistance. And why Mandela failed with it.
I'm not a fan of #Jacobin, but this seems interesting.

This wee bitty, who has dark curly hair and large round brown eyes, is screaming in pain after having been tear gassed by radicalised illegal settlers. Her distress is such that one can see all of her tiny baby teeth. Her sweater is pink and fluffy. A loved one is gently holding her hands to prevent her from rubbing her eyes, which can cause injury after a tear gas attack.

Emanuel #Kant about how humans developed universal reasoning:
"This is the form of #bourgeois (bürgerliche) society.
This structure, as becomes clear again and again, is not found outside of #Europe. [!]
Thus, the "passages in which the supposed laziness or inability to work of various non-white groups of people is mentioned appear in a completely new light. When, for example, Indians are said to be too weak for hard work, too indifferent for industrious, and incapable of all culture, it becomes clear that this is connected with a statement about these people in the relationship between nature and reason." -- Emanuel Kant
In the time after Kants death, white #enlightened #Europeans murdered and killed 150.000.000 humans in the colonies from 1800 to 1900.

Annihilation by Labor
New research suggests, that even though most indigenous people in the colonies died of european diseases, way more people died in the mines then expected and those who died by a disease had a lack of immune system because of the daily physical exploitation and destruction.
Citation Wikipedia:
"While the populations of Europe rebounded following the devastating population decline associated with the Black Death, there was no such rebound for the indigenous populations of the Caribbean. He concludes that, even though the Spanish were aware of deadly diseases such as smallpox, there is no mention of them in the New World until 1519, meaning perhaps they didn't spread as fast as initially believed, and that unlike Europeans, the indigenous populations were subjected to slavery, exploitation, and forced labor in gold and silver mines on an enormous scale." 19th century had 150.000.000 dead in the colonies according Prof. Enzo Traverso. On a total world population, that I estimate at least to 3 billion ppl., so Europeans killed One out of 20 to 30 persons on the entire globe.
I guess, that's what enlightenment means. 🤔
“'Chinese people love watching how other places are not as good as China,' Cheng told Rest of World, arguing that he had portrayed Africa in a truthful way. 'If you film some advanced stuff here, people might not like watching. They would rather see lives that are worse than their own.'”
