So I have gotten hooked on . It's an odd show cause it feels like a more serious sci-fi, that's also throwing in action-y bits for presumably broader appeal.

Anyway, there was a scene in mid S1 where the younger Dawn emperor is hunting creatures (sort of 'sci-fi quails') with his older clone, the Dusk emperor. On his first attempt, Dawn is able to kill twice as many as Dusk's current record.

It's later revealed that Dawn is an imperfect clone, and has colourblindness. The implication here is it enabled him to see the 'sci-fi quails' more easily, as camouflage is sometimes more easily discerned by colourblind people.

This is a factoid I've known about since I was a kid, though I've never really tested it.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting and quite subtle reference.

WHITE TEXT WITH BLACK CONTOUR (or the reverse) IS THE ONLY WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR OVERLAY WILL BE LEGIBLE

Don't get fancy with colors, even if they seem to provide decent contrast to you.

I think the '90s and did a number on a lot of people. I think a lot of people grew up thinking even mentioning was, itself, some form o#f racism (after all, Sesame Street and other kids shows had people of different races, and those shows definitely weren't racist).

People with his mindset will think all jokes even mentioning race are edgy and , even if the jokes are actually tame and progressive....

"The poll also found that gun violence disproportionately affects people of color, with twice as many Black Americans (34 percent) saying they have a family member who has died from gun violence, than white Americans (17 percent.). Sixty-two percent of both Black and Hispanic adults say gun-related activity is a major concern or constant threat, compared to 45 percent for white Americans."

As usual, averaging without race conceals the effects of racism. "Colorblind" means ignoring racism.

@andybaio @sarahjeong Thank you! A while back I went looking for tools to help choose colors that would work for folks with color blindness, and couldn't find anything that offered a clear recommended approach that would work for all or most forms. It's good to reach that your form is the most common and that red/blue works; I've otherwise learned to think of using texture/pattern differences as well as color.

I find I'm seeing a lot more colour on things than I do with the naked eye thanks to the macro lens (thanks, partial colour blindness!)...like this grasshopper. I couldn't see the red in real life, even from 50cm away. It just looked like smudgy dark green.

But wow - the colour is amazing! 😲
