Saw a knitter on the subway, a picker but with the right hand (I'm a thrower, w/my right [active] hand, usually I see pickers w/yarn in left [passive; not the needle] hand). I asked and she knit the beautiful colorwork sweater she was wearing. Grey w/off-white blocks. Small needles for me, they looked like four or fives.

I've been knitting in the 1980ies, the decade of intarsia knitting. I've made quite a few of those projects, but I'm not sure if I ever used much more than 10 colors in one pattern.

Kudos to everyone attempting this project.

And yes, I love the palette from Holst yarns.

27 (!!!) Colors

I've been knitting in the 1980ies, the decade of intarsia knitting. I've done quite a few of those patterns back then. But I don't think I ever went beyond maybe 15 different colors in any one project.

Kudos to anyone attempting this.

I’m reverse-engineering an out-of-print #colorwork #knitting pattern based on photos on rav and goddamn, socks have a lot of math involved. Best I can tell, the colorwork has either a 22 or 24-stitch width which is hard to fine-tune for different leg sizes. Probably I need to put some kind of 3-4 stitch repeat panel down the back so there’s a little bit more flexibility in terms of circumference?

At what point does this stop being reverse engineering and start being pattern-writing?

New project, not much to see yet.

I have to set aside my large project for a few days as I need this to be done ASAP. A very dear colleague of mine retires in a few days and I want to make a cowl for her to wear on dog walks in the future - so #doubleknitting with a few dog themed patterns - bones, paw prints ... On the picture is about 2 nights of knitting, this is maybe 1/3 of the planned project.

#fiberuary I haven't done any #colorwork yet, but this is the largest, most comfy thing I have ever made, and in a lovely variegated red wool. I would have shown it on the floor, like everyone else, but you just don't get a sense of how ridiculously large the hood is from it.

This is not well designed (by me) but I learned a fair bit from it

Oh, yes, it's #Fiberuary isn't it...

I think I'll start with some colorwork I did in crochet decades ago and still have around and was happy to finally have a place to display it ^_^

Well, a week in bed with covid means the body of a sweater is done, so at least there’s that.

I knit the yoke of the sweater first (so I could show it to customers in my shop), then came back and knit the rest from the bottom up, per instructions. And now I’m grafting them together!

@katpesk When I do #colorwork, I carry the main color in the left hand and knit continental-style, and the contrasting color in the right hand and knit English-style. Sounds hard but isn’t 😁
