One of my expressive paintings for awareness day. Not previously inflicted upon Mastodon.

I use reds, greens, oranges, browns and yellows interchangeably merely as shades of each other. I use them as the mood takes me.

A bucolic abstraction from a happy late summer pre pandemic.

8% of men and 2% of women will see pretty well what I see.

Today is my day for a flurry of posts about issues.

It ties in nicely with research.

According to mom my grandfather irritated gran when he complimented her red hat.

My male cousins and me each had reduced career choice ... I couldn't do chemistry, Dave couldn't join the police, Richard couldn't be an electrician.

None of us saw the brown ball on the snooker table. Nor the pink. Nor the green.

And the colour dots aren't much use at all.

Do not use colour as your only indicator for information! 🚫

This restaurant uses red, green and brown coloured dots to display the dietary info of a meal. There is no chance of telling them apart if you are . They are just too similar.

To solve this issue:

- Use different icons or abbreviations (e.g. v+ for vegan, v for vegetarian)
- Write a word instead of relying on an icon
- Use colours that are more distinguishable and have good contrast in addition (!) to the text

@simongerman600

You may jest ... Being makes all the flags comprising coloured horizontal or vertical bars a total no-go for me.

This would be great!

So I have gotten hooked on . It's an odd show cause it feels like a more serious sci-fi, that's also throwing in action-y bits for presumably broader appeal.

Anyway, there was a scene in mid S1 where the younger Dawn emperor is hunting creatures (sort of 'sci-fi quails') with his older clone, the Dusk emperor. On his first attempt, Dawn is able to kill twice as many as Dusk's current record.

It's later revealed that Dawn is an imperfect clone, and has colourblindness. The implication here is it enabled him to see the 'sci-fi quails' more easily, as camouflage is sometimes more easily discerned by colourblind people.

This is a factoid I've known about since I was a kid, though I've never really tested it.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting and quite subtle reference.

"Oh, for fuck's sake!" said Kim, the words coming easily through force of habit.

@stux One of my first jobs was in a lab in a paint factory. My boss asked me to colour match a sample. He was less than pleased with my poor attempt and even less pleased when I told him I was red-green colour blind. Well they never asked me at the interview. Was relegated to formulating primer paint that would stick to very slippy plastic handles. No colour work involved. .

Having prepared a full set of I've used almost all of them in the first hatched , the intersectional shield.

The idea is to present the design(s) in a way that is equally to and non-colourblind people. However due to the nature of the hatching patterns I'm concerned about triggering epileptic seizures, so I'm putting it behind a warnings. Opinions welcome.

@StopPress it may be to you, but it’s completely and utterly meaningless to anyone who’s with protanopia. Every colour on that looks exactly the same to me 😂

@prometheus @garius now you know how us folk feel in MacDonalds, running the “is it bbq/is it ketchup?” gauntlet 😀

Just stick a damn label on it…

Oh come on , how hard is it to use high-contrast colours? I, and , am , and this chart is basically "health" and "other" to me.

@stjepanlukac Maybe it'll help to tag with the actually relevant piece of information asked about so people looking for that content here see it more easily?

question for other people above this.

I was always told no device could compensate colour-blindness. Now 90 international museums offer coulour-enhancing glasses to colourblind visitors. I've been to some of these museums and never heard of EnChroma’s Color Accessibility Programme. If that works, why can't these glasses be used in everyday life?
