Just heard the very sad news that Terry Hall of #TheSpecials #FunBoyThree #Colourfield - and a true working class #antiracist hero - has died. Such an amazing singer who sang about real people and real issues with a rare honesty heard in so many of his songs - from pure joy to utter sorrow. A sensitive, shy, talented and unique person

When I first moved to Coventry in the early 90's I stayed in a shared house with his cousin among others. The #Specials still dominated the music scene even then way after their split. Never met Terry, but did some of the others.
Never saw The Specials though listened to them a lot, especially at Uni in the mid 80's. I did see him with the #colourfield once, though he didn't look to be having a fun time then.

I only just found out about #TerryHall dying. As a kid I always thought he was a leery wide-boy but as I got older I got to appreciate how clever a songwriter he actually was, and had always been. Even the bloody #Colourfield.
I always loved the #NouvelleVague cover of Friday Night/SaturdayMorning. It highlighted his words so plainly.
