Conocarpus erectus L. (Combretaceae) is sometimes called "button mangrove", however, I've never seen it within the mangrove forest here along the Amazon coast. The shrubs rather occur beyond the limit of regular tidal inundation in an open marsh environment with moderately salt-tolerant herbs.
