One year ago today, a Comeng set crosses the tram square at Glen Huntly Road on Melbourne's Frankston line.
One week ago this line reopened after almost a two month shutdown to remove this level crossing, and the nearby Neerim Road. The rail line now runs below Glen Huntly Road. The small signal box (to the left of the picture) has been abolished and dismantled.

On this day in 2016, a Comeng set is Cranbourne bound at Caulfield. Today, all trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines are operated by HCMT sets.
190 3 car Comeng sets were constructed between 1981 & 1988 by Commonwealth Engineering in Dandenong (which became ABB, then Bombardier, then Alstom).
Comeng sets have operated on all Melbourne's electrified train lines, also operating to the regional town of Warragul in eastern Victoria until the line was de-electrified to Pakenham. With the introduction of HCMTs, they are slowly being retired, and now only operate on the Upfield, Sunbury, Werribee, Williamstown, Sandringham and Frankston lines.
The same factory that built these trains also constructed Melbourne's Z, A & B class trams, Adelaide's 3100 class railcars & 4000 class EMUs, the final 4 of the 18 XP class locomotives & all 8 XAM sleeper carriages (used on XPT services), NSW's Endeavour & Xplorer DMUs as well as the Phase 1 LRVs for Hong Kong's Light Rail network.
