This makes it inefficient for storing code and kind of a pain working with data > 8KB that is packed throughout the total binary, compressed art / levels, for example

Basically it's been turned into some commercial product.
Amd whilst they can't opensource or share the BASIC & KERNAL they could at least not go out of theor way to prevent others from iterating upon it and buy that ROM through them legitimately.
The #CommanderX16 / #X16 thus is more a toy for #C64 & #C128 fans that want something they can easily hook up to a modern TV.
THE #RC2014 in comparison looks like an open architecture.beyond the ability to make expansion cards.

Er macht nicht nur extrem geniale Video über #RetroComputing, Restaurationen und alte Spiele, er hat auch über 6 Jahre unglaublich viele Spiele für sehr viele alte Computer programmiert und verkauf diese.
Auch einen eigenen Computer den #COMMANDERX16...

I've always wondered why such a system never happened back in the day. There are parts of the memory that could have been remapped without breaking much -- the cassette buffer comes to mind. I'm quite happy the #commanderx16 has such slots. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one!
