The importance of #commas.
The absence of the comma in this ad (from the Irish Times yesterday) gives the sentence a gleefully sinister edge, viscerally reinforced by the repetition at the end...
oh my god.

Here's why we #editors generally don't leave a comma now in a name before the suffixes "Jr.," "II," "III," "IV," and so on: https://cmosshoptalk.com/2019/12/10/how-strunk-lost-his-comma/

I’m really annoyed with Apple’s latest #software update. Specifically, the #dictation feature for texts. It throws in commas EVERYWHERE! If I was dictating, it might look like “It throws in, commas everywhere!” I realize this is a #GrammarGeek #PunctuationGeek #problem, but it’s slowing me down because I have to go back and delete random commas. If anyone can tell me how to make it stop, I’d be so grateful. 🙏😩 #Apple #Commas #Comma #Punctuation #Grammar #SoftwareUpdate

Under the influence of Iris Murdoch, I no longer use commas between adjectives. To be honest, contra most younger proofreaders, I am against this usage in general unless really necessary. #commas #proofreading #irismurdoch

I was thinking about a recent exchange re: #commas while #writing the sentence below, and I realized I regularly see ALL the styles below. That's from 3 to 0 commas!
3: I was sure that would get another laugh, but, abruptly, he was solemn.
2: I was sure that would get another laugh, but abruptly, he was solemn.
1: I was sure that would get another laugh, but abruptly he was solemn.
0: I was sure that would get another laugh but abruptly he was solemn.
Personally, I admire 3 but use 2

"The protagonist's screaming, as he suffers agonizing physical pain induced by an aphrodisiac given him by an Asian prostitute, Harry's former lover, allegorizes his inability to know/enjoy the Other's, the killer's, jouissance as well as the pain of the loss of phallic jouissance that is inflicted on him."
