Zur Erholung und für mehr #SpaßAmGerät waren wir gestern im #DigitalRetroPark in #Offenbach, einem süßen kleinen, von einem Verein getragenen Museum über frühe Heimcomputer. Weil man alles anfassen, ausprobieren und testen darf, ist es dennoch ein umfassendes Vergnügen.

Ich glaube, ich habe mich ein bisschen in den #CommodorePET dort verliebt. <3

(Und ein anderer Teil möchte gerne die Bibliothek hätscheln. Berufskrankheit. 😐)

@saustrup @notawizard I first saw a #CommodorePET when I was in the elementary school. It sat, unplugged, lonely and forgotten, on a bench in the woodworking classroom[*]. If my memory serves me right, it was a 4000 series one, possibly with a 4040 drive.

We had a #C64 at home and I thought PET was a truly inferior machine, not knowing then it was barely a few years old at the time!

If someone had shown me this demo, I wouldn’t have dismissed the machine as a piece of junk. Maybe would even tried to give it another life.

@lefebvre We had cassettes on the #CommodorePET and #Commodore64 computers at school. (I grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania, home of #Commodore’s world headquarters.) When it came time for the inevitable wheedling to my parents for a #C64, I was insistent on a 1541 #FloppyDisk drive.

They were *very* generous, but since I’m a December baby I received the computer for my birthday and the disk drive for #Christmas. It was an agonizing two weeks in between.
