by in @grist:

"When Valencia Gunder delivers food and other necessities to people impacted by disasters or people experiencing homelessness in Miami, it’s about helping with kindness — but she sees it as more than simply providing aid or dignity to those in need. For Gunder, it’s also the foundation of community action for climate and justice.

“'Every organizer should be a first responder,' says Gunder, a climate and economic justice organizer (who was featured on our 2021 Grist 50 list). “Now, after you done fed everybody and folks are somewhat back to their resilient space, [then] we can start to do the advocacy again.”

You have a unique opportunity to create a lasting legacy that will shape the future of the world. By putting forth your ideas, you can make a difference and inspire others to do the same. Begin with simple acts of kindness and compassion, and use your voice to spread a message of hope. As you create positive change in individual lives, your ripple effect will extend beyond what you may ever imagine.

Hey everyone,

I'm really concerned about the antisemitic graffiti that's still on display near Molly Malone in Dublin. It's disheartening to see something like this near one of the most famous tourist spots in the city. I'm sure many of us feel the same way

Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone know what we can do to get it removed?

We should not tolerate such hate speech in our communities

This is a nice story - saving a piece of ancient woodland from developers - but not quite over yet.

“The community activists I have met, by contrast, have stability, knowledge rooted firmly in the real world, and a fierce drive to make things better. Therein lies something that has felt vanishingly rare this year: a real glimmer of hope.”

Community action really seems a source of hope and solutions to today’s problems.

Hello. I do not only want to talk to people born in 1991, but I can't create everyone else's respective platform.
Take your generations' welfare and future into your own hands. This world belongs to us all.
Let's help eachother accomplish goals.

Given the very recent history of this woodland being saved for this and future generations there's really only one song going through my mind:

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
....
And it feels so good

Just over 3 weeks ago For Sale by Auction signs were put up for this piece of woodland. The auction was due to be held next Wednesday. There had been no prior consultation with our community. With very little time (< 4 weeks from signs going up to auction date) our community came together and have now saved this woodland for this and future generations.

@planty Those are some great suggestions!

My thermostat is at 15 C (59 F), because the 12 C (55 F) you recommend is a bit too cool for my spouse & kids. But that's still well below the 20 C (68 F) that is more typical. I'll continue to step it down gradually, but the family has to get used to this temperature a bit before I push it further.

Also, I keep one room around 20 C (thank you electric space heater) to keep the hydroponic plants producing. While 18 C would be fine for Spinach, the lettuce, bok choy, hot peppers, and bell peppers need a little more warmth to produce reliably.

The remainder of your suggestions are already implemented, with the exception of the electric blankets (fleece works great).

We've long cut out beef & fish. Pork is a twice-yearly treat & poultry is down to 5 meals in 2 weeks.

I guess I've been doing this stuff so long I didn't realize how much I've already done.

Time to stop sweating personal action and move to !
