My personal passion is organizing communities at the hyper-local level and encouraging people to step into whatever role best suits them.

I've been trying to hone in on the best role for me personally, and I'm discovering that it involves connecting people, communicating and educating in positive, productive ways, and getting to know my neighbors at a personal level. And I finally feel like I am truly thriving.

Early Friday morning, I released the third edition of our neighborhood council's new weekly newsletter. I'm feeling very proud of the improvements I've made since the first edition just two weeks ago.

I'm committed to improving quality of life in my Oakland neighborhood, East Canyon 22x, and well beyond by bringing neighbors together, inspiring them to get involved locally, and informing them about local realities (battling skewed, anti-democratic news narratives from for-profit news conglomerates and little fascist outfits, tryna take our progressive DA, Pamela Price, down, smh)!

As a retired technical writer, I think of how short-lived the usefulness of my work was. It no longer has any value at all.

The community building work I am doing now without a paycheck, though, can potentially stay useful well beyond my lifetime because of the ripple effect of building supportive relationships.

I'm working on building the kind of #spiritualcommunity that I want, and I'm really excited about it so far:

We're calling it "#BreathingRoom"– a non-dogmatic spiritual community centered around practices of #breathwork, #silence, and #communitybuilding.

The idea is that activating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) is a worthwhile goal for social/emotional/mental/physical wellbeing, but it also happens to be a prerequisite for spiritual/moral development and maturation.
