🎊 Making an Event Happen — What does it take to set up and run a community event?

What things would I have to do to host an event? How can I divvy up tasks so I'm not doing it all myself? Once people want to help, how can I make it easy for them to sign up for tasks?

🤖 Authentic Event Marketing — Be a human, not a robot.

I see a lot of early-stage meetups doing awesome authentic marketing -- but eventually when those organizers get tired, it slips into lifeless automations instead. That's a trap! Instead, try asking other group members for help spreading the word.

Where are the queer, BIPOC organizers from Florida sharing what they need?

Can I send money? Signal boost? Something else?

I’m worried about what’s happening in FL but I’m not interested in abandoning the state or going off half cocked without listening to people who are directly impacted.

Please boost this if you’re also wondering who needs our attention. Let’s find the right people.

I should point out that this “guerrilla”-looking, avowedly radical handbook was published by Bantam Books, most mass-market of all American publishers, *because they perceived the size of the market for it accurately* in 1971. I remember seeing this for sale in train stations and shopping-center bookstores when I was a kid (shopping centers because this was before malls were really much of A Thing, believe it or don’t). In its way, it was as mainstream as any other artifact.

Can someone recommend an introduction to community organizing (books/readings, videos, infographics, etc) that have been helpful to you, personally? This organization, and I'm sure many others, has reached the attention of community members who consider themselves 'brand new' to the world of activism and we could use help in the form education.

How to bring the Democratic majority we need in Congress for 2024 and beyond: keep donating NOW to local grassroots voter mobilization. It's a year round thing. We are building movements for the long haul, not just during "election season" (ugh). I proudly support Movement Voter Project (movement.vote is the URL)--they get money where it's needed, 365/24/7.

I agree the roots of the term Professionalism, how it was coded, and how the idea was spread to exploit is so problematic.

It would be interesting to have conversations with Black and Brown professionals (as well as educators who prepare them for jobs) about how they envision economic sovereignty and what characteristics they'd like to see in their ideal work environments.

I know this conversation already kind of happens in spaces but I think a broader conversation around what it means to be in "right relationship" with work could be pretty generative.

Personally I'm starting to reflect upon what does it look like to show up for the work I've committed to in a way that's authentic and that honors my whole person?

If I could afford to set aside the harmful around how would I show up different in a work environment than the way I do now?

Given our current reality under capitalism, there are expectations that I show up demonstrating characteristics I believe can be toxic (ref. 's work). So how can I show up as the person I want to be and what will it take to create or access working environments that feel like they honor my sovereignty, my personhood and my contributions?

What opportunities can be gained from building a community of practice centered around within the ?

What kinds of risks should we be aware of when in a virtual environment like Mastodon?

What kind of resources will we need to create a safe container for folks engaging in any organizing in the ?

For context, here is an excerpt from describing what we'd like to create here

What is a Practice Space?

"A Healing Justice Practice Space (HJPS) is an all-gender, allbodied, inclusive and accessible space for practicing and receiving healing that is built in partnership with social justice movement work and sites of political action.

These spaces typically offer a wide variety of health and healing services, including (but not limited to) first aid, counseling and crisis support, mediation services, massage therapy, acupuncture, energy work, herbal therapy, divination, art therapy, nutritional counseling, and yoga.

Sometimes they are aligned with public healthcare systems and sometimes they are independent.

Sometimes they include opportunities for building analysis and sharing political education, sometimes they focus solely on individual and collective healing."
