The riots in are cool and all. Breaking shit is great, it explodes capitalist normality and interrupts the valorization process.

But a revolutionary rupture is more than just breaking things, it means building something new. This can look like popular assemblies (some did emerge during the Yellow Vests moment), restoring production for needs under self-management, the occupations and communization of previously private spaces, exchange without money or mutual aid, etc.

I'm wondering if there's news to suggest the beginnings of any of these. We saw some of these emerge in the previous Yellow Vest moment in France, but generally France did return to status quo. Shall things turn out differently now?

Ultimately, Meta would kill what Mastodon has become, as everyone will mostly be using their app. They will have saved their business empire from the threat of .

This is why they are doing this. It's a business move, and if you think that you somehow outsmart 500 billion $ company you're deeply misguided. In capitalist societies, smarter people are not more successful at doing what they want to do, richer people are.

Some communists think communism means democracy. Other communists think communism means the abolition of democracy. Gilles Dauve had an anecdote that stuck with me. In the almost French revolution of 1968, train workers were striking. Through democratic proceedings they established that they would not block trains run by scabs. But when scabs started running the trains again, the striking workers flung themselves to block the scabbers. The action was collective, yet not democratic. Communism will surely be "democratic," but it won't necessarily be democratic in principle, in explicit design. This is because democracy as mere procedure or as liberal ideology actually harms the development of communist consciousness. Yes, communism will mean the abolition of democracy, just as communism will mean the abolition of the state and of classes.
