These #Paintings are part of the 118 #ArtWorks from the collection of George Byng, 6th Viscount 6th Earl of Torrington who acquired them around 1815 AD.

Two c1875 AD #CompanyPaintings of 'Botanical Studies' by Rungia Raju of #Madras (#Chennai) #India

On paper watermarked 'Thos. H. Saunders, London', these #Paintings were commissioned by Mountstuart Elphinstone Drant Duff, Governor General of Madras (1881-86), a keen Botanist. His father, a historian, had sailed to #Bombay #Mumbai in 1805 becoming a Lieutenant in #EastIndiaCompany

Saunders, a leading Paper manufacturer in England had opened his mill in 1840.

Lot no 2 'A Green Snake' #CompanyPainting from #Madras (#Chennai).
Inscribed: 'A Green Snake from Mrs Moberly's Garden/ 25 July 1839'.
The 'Mrs Moberly' is thought to be Henrietta Moberly, wife of Lt. Colonel Henry Moberly, an Officer in the Army of #EastIndiaCompany who died at Madras on 12th August 1844, aged 51.
