You can indeed look away from news or messages if you have #compassionfatigue. It does not mean you don't care. Don't let people shove disturbing things in your face, saying it's "important." Your sanity is important too.

I do like knowing some of the cool accomplishments black/African-Americans have done, but learning about how wrongly they've been treated is such #compassionfatigue to me. I guess it's "important to talk about," but I guess I try to be more optimistic and solutions-focused for my own sanity. Getting upset by the plight is exhausting. I know we have to live with the guilt/fear but I think we do need to note our progress.

What I Write: “organizations have a responsibility to interrogate the continuance of aggressive behaviors, moral distress, compassion fatigue and burnout in nursing.”

What Editors Change it to: “Nurses are resilient, with remarkable ability to adapt to any situation and take control of their own self care.”
