Johnny Dorelli - “Con Lui, Con Me” (1967)
This is a super cool, very retro sounding song by Italian singer and TV personality Johnny Dorelli. It’s a cover of a 60’s-sexist anthem by Andy Williams called “Music to Watch Girls By”.
But this version is just wonderfully kitsch. Dorelli is so emotive, and the music improves on the original imho. Kinda corny, but still really fun and upbeat.
I got this from a compilation CD released in 2004 called “Stasera Shake”, a wonderfully done collection of go-go and mod dance-floor numbers from the Italian scene of the 1960’s.

Alternative Tentacles Records releases the compilation album “Let Them Eat Jellybeans”
The Reagan years were a target rich environment for political bands. I mean, the guy was clearly a fascist, along with Thatcher.
Sometimes the only solace I could find amidst the cruelty and greed of 80s American culture was listening to defiant political tunes from bands like DKs, Crass, and MDC.
And compilations were how many of us discovered new bands. One album and you could sample the best of many different bands, and then go from there, buying more of the bands you liked. This is what this comp did for me, along with several others.
Includes the original (and best) version of Bad Brains’ “Pay To Cum”, and a version of “Nazi Punks Fuck Off!” that’s different from the version on their album “In God We Trust, Inc.”

I got this after hearing the track by The Minders “Don’t You Stop”. It’s better than the version from their 2006 album.
This one compiles a ton of great indie rock bands from the Pacific Northwest, as they played during one of 34 house parties held between 1997 and 2004.
Faced with dwindling all-ages options and a prohibitively costly bar scene, Magic Marker co-founders Mark Rothkopf and Curt Kentner invited their favorite bands to play in their home. Those bands, in turn, lend their recordings to this retrospective of twee times at the house, located at 4306 SE 34th Ave in Portland, Oregon.
The Shins, Lucksmiths, The Decemberists, The Minders, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Tullycraft, Dressy Bessy, and many more.
