I have to say that the distro and the desktop environment are really satisfying. However, it depends for every user, I guess. There is a single thing from Compiz effects that drew me back to Mint several times in the past: the ability to control window brightness individually, independent from the screen brightness. It was simply awesome for my eyes. I really miss that feature!

I'm working on a transparent version of CyberHack #theme, and I'm so happy with the result so far!
Notice blur behind transparent windows in #GTK3, thanks to #Compiz. That won't happen on every desktop, therefore, and transparency without blurring background is usually distracting or makes things difficult to read, so one may get tired soon of that theme. No with compiz and blurred backgrounds :)
Using #XFCE with Compiz and #emerald.
