I am re-reading for the third time:
Juarrero A (2002): Dynamics in Action: Intentional Behavior as a Complex System.
And again I am helped to understand more about complex dynamical systems.
And each time I re-read I am wondering more whether there has been added knowledge since she wrote the book.
Of course, all kinds of interesting and important details have been added. But new vistas, understanding of what complex dynamical systems are and do?

A very rich illustration of the fact that early development appears to be preprogrammed, because the result in every baby is similar, but that in reality there is no common pathway. Understanding complex dynamical systems is essential.
"Although both children [studied by Thelen and Fisher 1983] reached successfully wthin a few weeks [from birth] of each other (thereby, from an observer's perspective, apparrently conforming to a Piaget-like unfolding of preestablished developmental stages), in fact each infant generated an individual solution to the task at hand. There was no preprogrammed, unfolding pattern common to both." Juarrero A (2002): Dynamics in Action: Intentional Behavior as a Complex System. Cambridge, Mass. London, England, A Bradford Book. p. 137/256, citing Thelen en Smith 1994.

Can somebody help me find an email adress of Alicia Juarrero. If you have it: can you ask her if it is ok to give to me. If you don't, please boost!

"Once selforganized, the global dynamics of the overall organism-environment system become the control knob ot its components_top down causality, in effect." Juarrero A (2002): Dynamics in Action: Intentional Behavior as a Complex System. Cambridge, Mass. London, England, A Bradford Book, p.135/283.
Is this enough -with the previous explanations- to accept top-down causality (which is not the same as linear causality)?

It’s an experience like no other experience I can describe, the best thing that can happen to a scientist, realizing that something that’s happened in his or her mind exactly corresponds to something that happens in nature. It’s startling every time it occurs. One is surprised that a construct of one’s own mind can actually be realized in the honest-to–goodness world out there. A great shock, and a great, great joy. —LEO KADANOFF
