Today's continual inescapable brainfart...

I'm installing some PHP stuff and *every* time I go to type 'composer' my fingers type 'composter'.

Got #compost on the brain.

Or maybe my brain is #compost, sure feels like it lately.

The #compost pile is not a waste to be managed. You mix carbon, nitrogen, air, and water.

You produce a fertilizer that has a high-carbon value that you will put back into the soil.

You are a carbon farmer on a mission for a #climateaction.

It is very very very valuable to compost.

Just cleaned out the worm compost bucket. At least 30 worms escaped to the exterior bucket. I thought I’d tip it out around the roses and ended up tipping the worms out with the sludge that was in the bottom. As soon as they smelled dirt they were half way buried in the garden. I should have left them to themselves but ended up hauling them out and putting them in the new clean bucket. They were not messing around! Very much reminded me of catching naughty ponies in a muddy field. #compost

@gardening seeing at least a few of the stalks of my potato plants falling over & drying out as I walked back in from a shopping trip today has me thinking that tomorrow as my spouse has his morning coffee, I should be going through the bags those plants are in, to see what they've yielded and likewise to spread the #Compost out among other bags, as before putting in carrots and radishes to germinate, before likely adding garlic next week.

Here is an example of a small Hugelkultur mount. We built it with our yard waste.

In the bottom layer some rotten wood and fill the gaps with leaves and brown material. Then layer green material like grass clippings. Keep layering.

When you reach the top add some compost and soil. Then cover it with browns.

In about six months it is ready to harvest and it will produce a massive amount of #compost. You can go bury your food scraps in it.

Somebody is doing a large renovation and threw away a lot of old chopped up furniture. So what did stfn do? Sneaked up to the garbage place with a cordless drill and took the L brackets and all that stuff. Those are perfect to build a #compost box. And won’t go to a landfill. And that’s maybe 20euro saved, those things are getting crazy expensive. #upcycle #reuse #reuserepairrecycle #allotment

Ye olde #compost is rock bound at 60C/140F like it's on a thermostat. 😎

This is why mulching your garden beds with deep compost is so important.

We received our new #Green #Bin this week, for the City of #Regina's new #municipal #composting program. Hey, only 20 years behind the small town my parents lived in back then, not too bad.

Also with the bin, you get a plastic bucket with a tight-fitting lid and a handle, to use in your house for #kitchen #waste, so you can "save up" scraps and not have to run out to the bin after every meal prep etc.

So far, not so bad.

Trench composting is just burying your compost. The compost breaks down quickly, lots of worms show up, and sometimes you get volunteer plants like this kombocha squash plant. The deer gave it a hard prune. It’s my healthiest squash. I wish the deer would prune all of my plants. :) #MN #garden #compost

We save eggshells and grind them into powder to go into the #allotment #compost heap and #homegarden #wormfarm. When thoroughly dry they grind easily to a powder in a normal spice grinder.

I've heard for years eggshell is good for worms. But then see people putting large chunks of eggshell into their compost? How big are their worms?! Do they have teeth??!! And then there are always just big chunks of eggshell out the other side.

So we started grinding ours in the hope that is more useful.
