After dinner I asked the kids to bring pen and paper so that they could write down the URL. It took more than I thought for them to find scratch paper but they eventually came with one and wrote down the address. The children enjoyed the mental challenge. After playing a few games with computers, I let them play each other. I paired the computers. Every time they switched opponents some of them moved so that they could sit next to their opponents. They discussed tactics and advised moves to each other. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive so I decided to play the same game tomorrow. When I asked whether anyone wanted the URL, the two boys jumped up and asked me for it. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

I used playstrategy.org in order to introduce the Computer Club members to the world of abstract strategy games. I believe that playing games and understanding their rules enhances their logic and reasoning. One notable example is Demis Hassabis, the CEO of DeepMind who won multiple Mind Sports Olympiad events. The first game the kids experienced was Othello. I picked it because it was simple to understand but challenging to master. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

The three members of Computer Club Class 1 were supposed to convene. However one of the girls' family members caught the flu and she was also not feeling well so she headed home after checking attendance. The sick girl was supposed to bring the prop so once again we had no scenes to film. I suggested a few activities but the remaining two rejected all of them. The two were dating and lost interest in class so I called it off. Not sure if Class 1 can continue. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

Day 3 of book requests. Students are accustomed to using Excel. Kids ranging from grades 2 to 5 edited the document. I witnessed a huge breakthrough. The kid who has language disorders successfully filled out the sheet on his own. He watched others do it for the last two days but kept hesitating. However today he courageously stood in front of the monitor, imitated the keystrokes and sequence of button clicks that he observed and succeeded. I am so proud of him. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

After two weeks of no class, class 1 of Computer Club convened on Thursday. We had three scenes to go. We discussed the future of this project, what to do after we are done filming as well as when to film the remaining ones. One of the girls announced that she wouldn't be coming to the center tomorrow so one of the scenes was pushed to next week. Another was also called off because the cast was ill and lying on the playroom. We ended up filming just one. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

For the second day in a row, I opened up my seat so that children could fill out a spreadsheet with books they would like to read in the center. President warned that books featuring violent content such as the widely popular Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series cannot be purchased. Some kids were disappointed at the announcement. One kid pointed out that he already has a few of the series at home. There were a few duplicate ISBNs so I marked them in red. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

I brought a laptop from the computer lab and created a split-screen setup where the left half was occupied by a spreadsheet and the right Kyobobooks, a major online book retailer. I yielded my space so that kids could search books and fill in the necessary information to purchase them. The form consisted of three sections: the child's name, the title of the book and the ISBN. Names were required so that kids could correct the data when it turned out to be invalid. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

We followed up on yesterday's class and tried to control the AI so that it would create pictures that we wanted. It struggled with Korean and some Korean characters that the dataset presumably did not cover. When the kids get used to file management we will try feeding custom data. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

Today the kids in Class 2 tried out generative AI for the first time. We used a public GUI instance of Stable Diffusion. Korean prompts were not accurate so I encouraged them to use translators if needed. Soon they mastered Ctrl+C/V. They tried a variety of characters and animals. They picked their favorite output and edited it with GIMP. Later we might try customizing AI. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

We filmed the demonstration section of our news segment in today's Computer Class. The plot was that one of the kids became a successful Youtuber but a recent expose demonstrated the extent of his plagiarism. Following the revelations, activists demanded his immediate resignation. One of the casts suggested holding up portable cubicles with their demands written on them. Following his advice, the scene resembled a real protest. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

The office is right next to Classroom 1 where the Computer Club convenes. The girls had time after dinner but due to the incident we decided to film in the garden. The boy was participating in a program so he could not attend. I asked the two to come up with a outro. Within a few minutes they came up with a cool one. Their friend even volunteered to be the cameraman. They never disappoint me. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

Meanwhile a girl could be seen asserting her will to second full-timer to join the Computer Club. She said that the class is full and will notify her once there is an opening. The club is truly the No. 1 activity in the center. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

I heard full-timer responding to a call from a mother of one of the candidates of the Computer Club. She asked what the computer class was about. Full-timer explained by stating that it is a class aimed at preparing the students for coding. It seemed that she had notified the parents about the new class in a separate parent-only private chatroom. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

Today we began creating a checklist to go through the things we need to prepare and ensure that all the guests have agreed to being filmed. We decided which scene to film on what day. While we were busy working a comrade came in. He told me that VP wants me to be in pictures so he took a few photos of me and the kids discussing what objects to prepare. #MilitaryService #ComputerClub

The fact that she had never showed any visible symptoms of trauma up to that point indicates how resilient she is. I felt sorry that she had to go through such hardships at a young age. I am relieved that she can talk about it without being overwhelmed by the accompanying terrible memories. God bless her.
