anyone know anything about #data #deduplication. i have 1 hard drive where I've gathered everything all my #backups, music, docs, emails etc etc etc. but i have a few copies of everything. want a program that simply scans the #drive, deletes all #duplicates, and keeps a copy of only 1 of everything. does the damn thing exist as i cant find anything simple enough? #techHelp #ComputerHelp #software #tech #techie

HELP.
I am looking for a little ticker like online or laptop (Windows) app/program that I can use to track progress. Kinda like a fundraising thermometer except not for fundraising. Example: I want to read 200 books, I have 200 at the end and I can just type in the number of books I read and the line progresses towards to the goal -- filling in, train running on track to end, something like that.

Need #computer advice right now.

The #SSD drive which runs my Windows desktop died & I can no longer #boot (no bios found & it fails SMART).

2nd #HDD hard drive passes #SMART. Need to pay someone to install new SSD drive and Windows. OEM Windows license means $ for another license.

I have a #MacriumReflect image of all the partitions, but it is an image, not a clone. I don't think I can reinstall Windows that way. Would also like to recover any SSD data not backed up to the image which is 1 month old

Above all, I want nothing to impact the 2nd HDD drive which is where the bulk of my data is stored. I have files backup through Thursday. Really really don't want to have to reinstall apps, browser extensions but seems inevitable

Question: What do I need to tell the computer tech specifically to do, and to avoid doing?

My mum’s old PC has died, and I was wondering about getting a #refurbishedPC to replace it. Any thoughts/suggestions welcome.
Mainly used for Word/emails/internet, but also Inkscape and Publisher, so nothing too fancy needed, but it will be probably be easiest to stick with Windows10.

I have a csv file with over 200k rows on it, approx 120MB. I need to edit this and run some simple formulas. I usually have a smaller files when I do this project and use Google Sheets, but this file is too large. What would be the simplest approach to this? Excel? Would the cloud version with Microsoft 365 work or do I need to be running it on my Macbook? Gigasheet? Something else? I'm not a programmer, or all that techy.

On my boyfriend's gaming laptop, and I saw this last time, there's a genuine char/burnt mark on top of the CPU die. It's not broken, this is clearly material that has burnt onto it. You can slightly feel it as a rough raised surface. The original paste was IC Diamond 7 from the factory for a few years.

Trying to figure out what could cause this (fingerprint oil?) And best way to remove it? It slowly rubs onto alcohol cotton ball, but slow. #ComputerHelp #PCBuilding #Laptop

My laptop is stuck in a boot loop and I don’t know what to do to diagnose it. Anyone a member of a hacker space in Berlin who might help me figure it out? I had to install a weird kernel extension to get Linux on it so I am worried that maybe why or I also might have fried the power manager chip on it after soldering the power cord back together.
