If one is going to be futzing around with #python on their system, I think the best way to inoculate/isolate one's user-space from the system is to install #pyenv

I used to completely pollute my installations by mucking up #pip installations with installing distribution python packages and end up struggling to get them working together properly.

pyenv is a great prophylactic if one doesn't need the #conda environment.

A question for #python and #conda users.
I have changed my computer from a x86 based to a M1.
I am migrating my conda envs but transplanting is not working. Is there a way to “export” the environments and reinstall them on the new computer and make it work?
Right now I have the default conda env which normally activates Python when I execute the command, but all the rest do nothing.
I guess that python version for x86 is not working for M1.

I am /just now/ creating a few slides on how to use #conda on an #HPC cluster.

It makes me wonder, wouldn't it be better if the module world and the conda world would be compatible? The idea of separated environments, which is a core feature of conda is a jolly good one.

The idea of providing optimized software (and helping to reduce the CO2 footprint of scientific computing) with a build framework that provides modules, is a good one, too.
