“A University of Chicago study found links at the atomic level between photosynthesis and —a strange state of physics that allows energy to flow frictionlessly through a material. The finding is scientifically intriguing and may suggest new ways to think about designing electronics”

...they 'just' correlate. It could very well be that the formation of condensates is a consequence of the difference observed rather than the cause. It could very well be that are a byproduct, a passive result of physical-chemical properties of highly abundant non translated mRNAs and their interacting proteins, and don't have a function per se. This, I would argue, should be the working model, until proven wrong. The end. 5/5

Let me rant about a propos this commentary👇. IMHO it illustrates a lot of the things that are wrong in . From the top we are told "researchers are trying to work out how these ubiquitous beads form and what they do" [the condensates]. I would argue the first question should be "do they do anything?", but biologists abandoned 'Ockham's razor' long ago. The most parsimonious explanation would be condensates have no function... 1/n

and are getting significant attention in the field. Here are two papers implicating condensates in signaling. In the first, -initiating cells adopt a glycogen storing mode that blocks Hippo signaling through phase separation. In the second, antagonizing condensates control Hippo signaling without dissolution, via multiphase coalescence.

@MM2022 would the approach in your preprint also work the other way round, to analyze experimental (FTIR) data of an IDP and get info on different subensembles (I only read the first part so far) - it defines looks very interesting- in my lab we are doing FTIR and multidimensional / 2D-IR on peptide systems involved in forming and a link to computational analysis would be very helpful
