When it comes to basic restoration like re-capping, is it straightforward? Specifically, did they tend to use standard, marked components so it's easy to see what they should be replaced with? Schematics/service manuals findable on the 'net?

More modern electronics with sanded-off, lasered-off, or never-marked-in-the-first-place components is annoying to try to do this with.

I may be slightly irrationally excited to have received a new H5 digital . Nice upgrade from my PMD660 (2GB cards were getting hard to find!) 4-track recording, XLR inputs with 48V phantom power, quite nice internal mics, and it can act as a USB audio device to . Nice quiet preamps too.

Sounded incredible with my 990 . is going to get some more runtime than usual this weekend 🙂
