I wonder if I'm the first person to think about The Pussycat Dolls whenever I read the PCD acronym while learning ISO 14443.

(PCD apparently also means "Proximity Coupling Device")

I tried to follow the #conjunction of Jupiter and Venus a couple of months ago, taking an image at the same spot at about the same time every few days over the course of about 4-5 weeks. (Passing clouds made it hard to get the timing exactly right.)

I don't have any specialized software for this, and my attempts at using OpenCV for image registration and feature aligning using e.g. homography did not turn out great.

So I just opened up #GIMP and manually aligned the images layer by layer, added annotations, and used ffmpeg to stitch everything together and add a couple more labels. The alignment isn't perfect but I hope the paths are sufficiently clear (and the compression on uploading doesn't make the planets too obscure).

Right now in Minneapolis it is just dark enough to see the #Venus-#Jupiter #conjunction. I missed the closest approaches, but to be able to watch the darkening sky through darker and darker gold and pink until suddenly first Venus and then Jupiter fades in is a fantastic experience.

Although it was too cloudy on Wednesday to see the planets the closest together, I had some luck last night in between moving clouds to observe and photograph the conjunction between Venus and Jupiter with its moons, from my garden in London.
