Blackalicious release their first album, “Nia”

It’s released in the UK on this date. It was released on another label in the U.S. the following year, which is when I got it.

Chief Xcel and Gift of Gab are an amazing pair of rappers and producers. This was a whole new sound to my ears, even having been an early fan of DJ Shadow.

This album flows pretty well, powered by a fresh take on “boom bap” beats that build on soul, funk, and jazz vibes.

I just used a newer version of "Blaue Flecken" by Fiva for ThursdayFiveList, the original song is on her debut album (together with DJ Radrum) from 2002. It's a fantastic album, that I haven't heard for too long.

Boogie Down Productions release their LP "Edutainment"

This is their 4th album, and the 3rd released after the death of original producer Scott LaRock. KRS-One extends his lyrical focus on socially conscious themes from an afrocentric point of view, most noticeably by the 6 “skits” done in between songs.

This is by far my favorite BDP/KRS-One album. It has so many great tracks, like “100 Guns”, “Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)”, and “7 Deejays” (featuring D-Nice, Heather B (RIP), and Ms. Melodie).

But my favorite is the title track. It’s got great rhymes, lyrics, and it uses a ska classic by the Skatalites as its main sample.

#YearOfVinyl Day 41: Denzel Curry - “Imperial.” His second LP, I don’t know if it’s as good as his first, and “Melt My Eyez See Your Future” is such another level it’s hard to compare, but this is maybe one of the more accessible intros to Southern #trap , while retaining a lot of #consciousrap writing. Never knowing exactly where he’s going next in his flow is part of the fun.

Es war eine gerappte Philosophie des Lebens in allen seinen Facetten. Kae Tempests Konzert gestern im Kölner Gloria werde ich so schnell nicht vergessen. Der in Tempests letztem Album "The line is a curve" zum Ausdruck gebrachte Selbstfindungsprozess geht live erst recht unter die Haut. #ConsciousRap
