Fauci was "the" expert in the US and the GOP wants to disavow that expertise and go with Republican Voodoo Medicine. That's the current state of #conservativism in the #USA.

Purely in terms of style, R. Emmett Tyrrell was a more entertaining read than Matt Taibbi and a sharper wit than Tucker Carlson. What we might call the rhetorical entropy of movement conservatism.

@YourNeighbor57 good to hear your not a anti-gun absolutist, but I don't think I could agree with having that much governmental control over guns is wise. Also, guns and cars are totally different; driving is considered a privilege while guns are a right. Should the government get massive control over our other rights like free speech? The reason for this is worth a discussion. True, when I spent 2 years as an exchange student in the US, Civics was still part of the curriculum, though most was little more than creation myths and propaganda.

Why were we more political? We were certainly invested in those models being fought out IRL.

The left was discussing #socialism, #communism, #syndicalism, #anarchism; the right was invested in #capitalism, #conservativism, #statism, #libertarianism, #objectivism.

The pretext for his book was that a young sympathiser with the revolution wrote a letter asking #EdmundBurke for his (presumptively favourable) reflections.

Both "Liberalism Meaning 0" and his valorising of tradition make Burke congenial to modern Anglo-American #conservativism .
