#ConspiracyTheory has come to mean "any idea I want to ridicule." Today I saw the notion that Jesus had a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene called a "conspiracy theory," as well as the assertion that a solar event will cause an Internet Apocalypse in the next couple of years.

I have no idea what sort of #conspiracy could hypothetically cause these things to be true, or even who is asserting that there's a conspiracy behind them.

My current favourite #ConspiracyTheory: #GenerativeAI services are going to play dumb for a bit while they evade scrutiny for stealing information they have no right to use in their models.

I'd heard about the surprising alignment between some #yoga groups and #RightWing #conspiracism before. This article lays out a number of plausible theories as to why and how members of such groups become susceptible to such thinking. Conformity, dissatisfaction with the limitations of medical/scientific solutions/explanations, the collapse of traditional religion – all feeding into to the very human need of wishing to belong and/or assert a collective identity.
