This book does sound interesting. I've notice - mainly from the anti-vax BS - how there is a certain type of spiritual, yoga-loving person who appears anti-corporate and almost revolutionary ... but who is always against people power of every kind.

The book Conspirituality discusses this culture which has it's origins in #eugenics and is, as Podur describes, anti-communist.

I think it was the #Conspirituality show but something I was listening to recently pointed out that for all that antivaxxers love to bring up the Tuskegee syphilis study what they are proposing is effectively the Tuskegee syphilis study. Knowingly withholding treatments we know work in the name of experimentation is, in fact, highly unethical.

The latest #Conspirituality is about a guy who claims the kombucha he brewed cured his mom's cancer.

Never mind she got surgery, a lumpectomy, radiation and chemo at UCLA, no, it was fermented tea.

....

This guy can go fuck himself.

@vivsmythe #DietCulture is absolutely rife with #Conspirituality (“where quack pseudoscience meets quasi-religious beliefs about how our bodies work"): clean eating, cleansing, sinful foods, being “good/bad” in keeping to a diet, willpower, fat=gluttonous/thinness=virtuous, fasting as spiritual, etc.
Diets are framed (in explicit and implicit was) as the means to get into Heaven.

Episode 66 of the Conspirituality podcast hit hard, especially the discussion on the Great Acceleration.

While that term often is associated with climate change, I see it in my own pre-pandemic life as that constant drive to hustle, to seize the day, to produce, to stay busy, to constantly think about growth.

The pandemic cut through all of that bullshit for me, and I'm committed now to taking a step back, to slowing down.

I'm refusing to "get up to speed."

This episode of I Don't Speak German was particularly thoughtful and insightful.

I hadn't hear of the Conspirituality podcast, but I thought Jack Graham and Matthew Remski had a sophisticated discussion of the phenomenon. Graham was particularly good at grounding this in socialist theory. It's nice to hear someone talk with authority on this topic.
