The Sky Guide app (I think it used to be called Sky Safari) is one of my all time favorite astronomy apps. Live compass, tracking, info, notifications of events, and tons of neat info on everything space and star related.

Today I learned the Canes Venatici is not spelled “canis venacti.” This must be something I misread as a kid about 8 years old and never happened to read again until now.

Either that, or I just jumped universes, and I’m originally from the one where it’s spelled canis venacti.

Hi. How are you all enjoying your spelling of that constellation on this side of the dimensional rift?

I forgot to post Lynx Constellation Done on 9X12 hot press with watercolour and gouache.
The original had phosphorus paint (glow in the dark) on the stars and name.

just got another launch contract from Synspective, bringing the total contracted launches to 6!

Synspective is an Earth observation company focused on SAR imaging.
To date, Rocket Lab has been the sole launcher of the Synspective constellation.

Another cool thing mentioned in the press release:

"In addition to providing Synspective with a high degree over schedule and orbit by flying as a dedicated mission, Rocket Lab also delivers the unique ability to perform an advanced mid-mission maneuver with the Electron rocket’s Kick Stage to shield the StriX satellite from the sun to reduce radiation exposure ahead of payload deployment."

The launches are planned for late 2023.

Happy birthday to American Henrietta Swan Leavitt (1868-1921) who set the scale of our Universe. In her day, women scientists were regularly hired to do menial chores like counting images on photographic plates as a "computer". In studying these plates, in 1908 she was able to deduce a ground-breaking theory, which allowed Hubble's later insight about the age and expansion of the universe.
