Aug. 12 1787 #JamesMadison saw no end in sight at the #ConstitutionalConvention.
He wrote to his father: “It is not possible yet to determine the period to which the Session will be spun out. It must be some weeks from this date at least, and possibly may be computed by months.”
Despite his misgivings, the delegates managed to complete the work just 5 weeks later.

Every time I think we need a Constitutional Convention I remember what miserable compromises were produced by the original one because people of somewhat better moral character caved in to the slave power.
