Best quote from a student about a construction industry career fair I tabled at last week:
“This was great as I got to try a whole bunch of different things and able to ask a lot of questions. Most career days I’ve gone to, it is some old guy telling me what I need to do. Not this one….. I even got to operate an excavator!”
"Some old guy telling me what I need to do" is exactly what we need to stop doing. This industry can be great for a lot of people.

Tell me you've paid off your equipment without telling me you've paid off your equipment: I have to call you 20 days after you rendered a service and ask for a bill.

These photos made my whole week, last week. Working with this crew for the past few years has been such a great experience.

If you have a HS Junior or Senior in your household who might be interested in learning about what working in construction could look like, please take a look at this event.
We'll be there with operators, laborers, carpenters, project managers, administrators, etc. There's something for every kind of thinker and doer in this industry.

I told my coworker that I woke up from a nightmare where one of our coworkers quit and this is the second time this year that it has happened to me.
He said he woke up from a nightmare where he reached out to a coworker to schedule something and it was their last day. He sent them an IRL email at 2:35 AM.
Is this unforeseen COVID trauma or the usual Construction Project Management stress?

I took a class from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It used to be a 2-day class, but it's down to 1 day.
We took a pre-class test. Did 3 hours of videos and Q&A, took an hour lunch break, did another 40 minutes of class time, took the test and left. That's around 4 hours, including the test.
How the heck was this ever two days of content?
I'm driving almost 280 miles, round trip, to take an all-day Quality Control Management class.
One of the digital hand outs for this QUALITY CONTROL class is a barely legible scan of a copy of a copy of a blank form.
One of the nice things about being on a long construction project is that you become a team with some of the other contractors. You're more like coworkers of the project than employees of different companies and it's not all business, all the time.
Today, in year four of a project, the Superintendent entertained us by performing a Rihanna song while we waited for someone who was late to a weekly coordination meeting. #womeninconstruction #constructionlife
