And they are a *cooperative* ! :anarchoheart3:
Windcoop’s first ship will be an 85m container ship with a loading capacity of 1,400 tonnes, i.e. 100 x 20 feet containers on average.
Plus up to 12 passengers!
The first line will be France- Madagascar, from 2025, transporting organic fairtrade spices*.
They are still looking for partners!

AAAS: "Accelerating accident appraisal." Off the coast of Sri Lanka, in May of 2021, a new container ship named the X-Press Pearl caught fire + burned for 12 days. Ultimately it sank in coastal waters, releasing huge quantities of plastic pellets + a slurry of toxic compounds. "Zhang et al. highlight multiple risky practices in the container ship industry, including failure to declare toxic items within containers, as well as poor packing and stacking, the ever-increasing size of ships, and container loss from increased storm activity." A companion paper by the same authors argues for timely biological damage assessment + "propose using whole-cell bioreporters that not only identify the presence of toxins but also gauge the biotic stress that they may cause within the affected environment." An ugly picture of not just this ship but for the industry as a whole. Mar. Poll. Bull. (2023) 10.1016/j.marpolbul.2023.114728, 10.1016/j.marpolbul.2023.114705 #containershipping #marinepollution

@Bookish @vees #Baltimore's had setbacks - huge fire in 1904, white flight in the #60s, switch to #ContainerShipping in the #70s...

My awesome colleague Rachel Cole, the transportation librarian at Northwestern, has an epic, years-long twitter thread of well-designed transpo trade mag covers and other visual ephemera. Yesterday’s was a winner #containershipping #maritime #maritimehistory

Hier ein gutes Beispiel für einen Hackerangriff auf kritische Infrastruktur, die Folgeschäden, die überwiegend nicht versichert sind, sind immens. #kritis #lissabon #hafen #logistik #containershipping #hackerangriff #cybercrime #cyberattack #cyberangriff #cyberattacken #cyberkriminalität #cybersicherheit #cybersecurity #ransomware #lockbit

Evergreen Marine’s #shipname conventions never disappoint. After the EVER GIVEN Suez incident made the G-class notorious, the F-class EVER FORWARD was grounded for several weeks in the Chesapeake when the pilot got distracted by his smartphone. A few months later, #Evergreen quietly launched the largest container ship in the world, the A-class EVER ALOT, all 24k TEUs plying between Northern Europe and East Asia. http://www.hafen-hamburg.de/en/special/ever-alot/
