The 49 websites, which were independently reviewed by Bloomberg, run the gamut. Some are dressed up as breaking news sites with generic-sounding names like News Live 79 and Daily Business Post, while others share lifestyle tips, celebrity news or publish sponsored content. But none disclose they’re populated using AI chatbots such as OpenAI Inc.’s ChatGPT and potentially Alphabet Inc.’s Google Bard, which can generate detailed text based on simple user prompts. Many of the websites began publishing this year as the AI tools began to be widely used by the public."

ChatGPT helps people to churn-put heaps of low-to-average quality content, which is good enough for advertising copy, and excellent for wrecking online search. Until now, people and big tech companies have been pretty good at discerning between humans and bots, but this is about to get a whole lot more difficult.

@stefankoell Blocking a mastodon instance is up to each mastodon's host owner. I am not saying that it would happen for sure but I can imagine that it could and rightly so. Why make #mastodon yet-another-twitter where everybody is scrolling output from #contentfarms all the time? People come here to talk and listen, not to scroll endless posts.

I see too many people joining #mastodon complaining that it is not enough like #Twitter. I sincerely hope that the former will never become like the latter.
