Content wrappers/warnings are a good thing for posts going into grisly detail about news stories.

Thanks to the people who use these.

And if you still aren't, it's that CW button at the bottom of the window where you write posts.

The seems to have seriously dented the (aka ) culture. I still see them, but they are becoming very thin on the ground on both my home and federated timelines.

I like that this instance refers to a as also something like a or or or .

It doesn't need to be a warning, could just be a subject line, just like there is in .

I do wish more people, especially the refugees would use the . One of the things I hate about Twitter is you end up doomscrolling. The CW allows people to choose whether to read your rant/post or potentially triggering post. This is a nice place, let's keep it that way. Use the CW.

Earth People,

I don't follow people unless they write some information about themselves in their bio.

A funny phrase doesn't really tell me enough.

I need to know we have at least a few of the same interests.

As always, be kind and use , and when appropriate

@SpockResists There is no doubt you will find your people and be able to hold many rigorous and energetic discussions on Mastodon. And many of us do accept that is an undercurrent to even the most mundane and everyday things. But here you need to be mindful of how often and how much other users want to engage with it on a daily basis. To disregard our by pushing your views onto everyone whenever and wherever you want will not be appreciated across the board.

Imagine if you were comfortably gardening in your village home and reading the news a couple times a day, but a load of vehicles with loudspeakers have started rolling through daily, yelling that there are so many things in the world to be outraged about, and we need to be guilted into becoming loud and angry ourselves.

Is that not a little bit rude?

I do disagree with the "no politics" argument but I strongly feel that we do not need more Twitter style chaos and .

So friends, just use a and I'll be much more willing to boost your political posts to your benefit.

Now might be a good time to announce the formation of the Anti-Hall-Monitor Club on Mastodon. We pledge never to Abuse Report or use or block, unless it's crypto spam. During the beta phase of Mastodon's 2nd iteration (that's what this really is), we pledge never to use mute or block. Why?

Because we know how to scroll past.

@Halperta

Thank you for the thread on CW & preventing retraumatization.

I have some other uses for CW.

I consider crafting the apt CW as equivalent to the art of gift wrapping. Or candy wrapping. :)

In essence the CW serves as a subject line / enticement.

CW is a space to be creative in.

So people know; if you use unicode characters to create a picture it plays havoc with screen readers. Could you put a Content Wrapper (CW) on your post so people who rely on screen readers can jump past your post?

Thank you

Words matter, so if a content informing culture is going to evolve here you have to call it what it is: . The term creates tension because it designates content as objectively negative. If things you love constantly come with a 'warning', it doesn't feel great. As a solution, some users have proposed the more neutral term but it's too vague to gain traction. clearly describes the goal of the practice.

Just a kind plea:

If you're tooting on distressing or potentially triggering topics, please don't make others carry the load of having to filter it out. Once seen, it can't be ignored or mentally wiped away.

Apply a content wrapper (CW).

Boosting sends unprotected content into others' feeds, so please do just take a moment to consider that too before hitting the button.

"How do I do a CW (content warning or content wrapper)?"

Click on the CW icon, a field will pop up, that's where you put the CW. Hit "apply" then do your toot text.
:
- You can edit your CW.
- Hashtags in CWs are non-searchable.

I know there's a lot of politics going on "everywhere" but the sheer scale of toots without a "politics" CW is becoming too overwhelming =

Please pop your politics toots behind a ( or ) - such as "AusPol Binfire"; "UK Tories Back on Their Bullshit"; "US Politics - OMFG" etc...

I'm a political animal, but having the option to read more, or not, is better from the get-go.

Thanks!
