Will this turn into a great paper? Only time will tell. But I think I managed to find an interesting subject for The Phenomenology of Spirit.

Slow and steady wins the race.

I need a new battle plan against The Phenomenology of Spirit, a book that refuses to be read.

So I've decided to challenge myself to a slow marathon. 1 page minimum - EVERY DAY - for the next month+ until April 29th.

1 page, every morning or evening if morning doesn't work. Though it won't get me all the way to the end by itself, at least I should be able to manage, and make progress.

Just gotta make it as easy as a habit!

Today I managed to read less than 1 page in The Phenomenology of Spirit.

I'm so far behind in reading for my bachelor thesis it would've been embarassing, if I didn't know almost everyone else in this course picked easier books than me.

Think I'm just going to try and read some commentary literature for a while, maybe it'll make it easier to read the main book again.

I think my biggest problem with continental philosophy is Lacan and Levinas (Heidegger seems to me to be mainly talking with himself, so why engage).
Why not engage with contemporary psychology instead of old theorists? Both Lacan and Freud seems to "pathologize" humanity in general. Why go along with an idea that the human face says "thou shall not kill" when it seems an empirical fact that it does not?

Aaah! Reading Hegel is soooo exhausting... and my "progress" today has constituted re-reading past "progress" and finding quotes to write down.

Progress is increasingly looking like taking 2 steps back in the hope of taking 3 steps forward later :blobcatbigsob:

Wow, this book makes Hegel surprisingly straight-forward to understand. So glad I picked it up for my reading of "The Phenomenology of Spirit". It also makes Hegel surprisingly fun 🤓

It feels like modern philosophy focuses on #rationality, as primary approacch to #epistemology, approach to knowing, is that reasonable?

Or is this a USA/Anglophone approach and so-called #continentalphilosophy is different?

I do notice #Frenchphilosophy seem written in much more poetic ways than anglophone #academicphilosophy.

Have been teaching #Heidegger in my #ContinentalPhilosophy course. I'm taking a break from publishing on history of philosophy these days, to focus on other areas. But am reminded how I've always felt that some of Heidegger's most interesting observations regarding ontology - the nature of the "I", intentionality, the idea of "substance" - have not been adequately absorbed in philosophical discussions on these topics. Not sure why.

So there are clearly a ton of analytic philosophers on here. Which is totally ok. But where are my #continentalphilosophy peeps at?

Teaching Foucault in my continental philosophy course at present. Funny how some students find it hard to get their heads around the idea of critique with emancipatory aims (which Foucault clearly has) that doesn't, however, offer a blueprint for society. Philosophy trains you to want THE answer, I think - the one right theory of justice, the truth about reality as such.
