#contrition is linked to religious guilt for sin, also being ground into rubble. This word rubs me wrong applied as it was by the GOP legislators (the speaker?) towards our fine young men, Justin Jones and Justin Pearson. If anyone in Tennessee needs to show contrition, it's the members who voted to keep assault rifles on our streets and who voted to expel the defenders of nonviolence in a move of undeniable overt racism.

Lots of it in religion. Just read part of the Lord Jesus' sermon on the mount tonight with a group. There's no room among Jesus' followers for artificial professions of faith, stilted language and sanctimonious intonations, or stiff formalities.
