I profusely apologize. #convocasa had a near to 24h outage due to the host system failing and unfortunately the provider being really slow at bringing it back up.

Lessons are learned, and I will be working on adding redundancy bit-by-bit to the whole stack, starting with the database.

No data was lost, and I continue to commit on keeping this service nice and smooth.

🥳 #convocasa is now on the latest version of #mastodon (4.1.0) - huge thanks to the @Mastodon team for continuously improving the software 👏

(note for #mastoadmin 's: in my case only one db migration was required to run - so nothing too serious 😅)

#convocasa has been successfully migrated. The new provider will allow us to scale-out when required, and already now I see ~3x improvements on the rendering times of certain pages.

Using Route53 + Cloudfront as well now as they have proofed to be far more reliable.

This was necessary and right in time as we have seen just yesterday, another peak in processing jobs - which is a good sign, as it reflects activity on #mastodon

📣 ⚠️ #convocasa users, I will gradually upgrade the whole setup of convo.casa over the next couple of hours. There should be no downtime, except during the database switch of ~10min.

These steps will improve page speed and reliability:

- Switching over DNS from gcore to route53
- Switching the Web CDN (not for media) from gcore to Cloudfront
- Switching the hoster for the containers to a more modern CPU which will improve the page rendering time immensely

There was a 40min outage on #convocasa.

My apologies for this, I unfortunately had to reboot the server for a kernel upgrade and it did not properly come back online.

All should be doing good now and no data was lost.

Just added another #cdn #pop to #convocasa in USA that will be delivering media for North & South America.

This is mainly to add more bandwidth for peak usage.

Anyone keen on helping out as #mod / #moderator for #convocasa (this #mastodon instance).

Ideally non-European timezone to have better coverage.

Next to zero moderation required currently but would like to be resilient during my off-hours.

Added a CDN PoP in South Africa for #convocasa (cc @red71bit). This will improve loading times of any media (images, videos, etc.) on this Mastodon instance.

Ah great - the #wasabi bucket for #convocasa is somehow not working (other buckets in same account & region are fine) - maybe a rate limit? Need to check with support.

A couple of hours ago I switched away from #bunnycdn towards my own “cdn” for #convocasa. While less fancy it is of course incredibly cheaper (less than a tenth of the costs of bunny).

I can scale-out and add more regions once actually required. I think it is good to be financially responsible, especially if this is run on #donations (well even though zero so far 😅)
