Tip. If you want to cook an ommlette, but the egg yolks are pale, try adding a pinch of turmeric and whisk in. Your omelette will look a delicious golden colour. A small amount of turmeric does not affect the taste, and is very healthy too.

It seems criminal, but I'm cutting up many of my old cookery books and scrapbooking my favourite recipes into half-filled A4 art sketchbooks (pasting the recipes over my daubings as well as on the blank pages)

Not sure what seems most wrong - cutting up the books, or trashing the sketchbooks, but the end result feels really good.

I have two A5 recipe scrapbooks as well, but they were from a different time in my life, and seem far less relevant today. Far more #vegetarian and #vegan, some fish, but far less meat in today's choices. My recipes now reflect my social circle, and the food I like to eat with them. Changing times, but I feel more like the "me" I am inside.

Not trying to categorise myself though, other than as a "social omnivore", but meat is definitely a "side" issue today over "good wholesome food" rather than a focus.

Gods, but I love my slow cooker. Where have you been all my life, beautiful machine?

Made chicken breasts in it yesterday that I couldn't lift out the pot with a fork; they just kept melting apart. 😍

And the smell that fills the house when you're cooking...omg...

It's also helping me to properly cook for the first time in years which has cut down my intake of hi-carb, hi-fat, hi-sugar rubbish by about 85%.

Air fryer - much better than an oven but doesn't work for a whole pizza which would be absolutely perfect

Microwave with grill - does a good job of frozen pizza etc. Mine's an LG model with an inverter which is solar panel friendly compared to crude on/off modulation

Breadmaker - avoid big oven

Bosch Autocook - induction+thermostat+timer for the #win

2023 is for expanding my cooking skills. I treated myself to a slow cooker for Christmas and this is its maiden voyage, a chicken noodle soup with garlic, thyme, carrots and onions! (Chicken breast will be shredded in five hours, which is when the pasta goes in too).

I can't wait for this (though obviously I'll have to! ☺️)
